Friend Close to Our Heart

Our dear friend, Karen Patricia Smaby died on August 24, 2020.  We celebrated her vibrant spirit with a trip to her evergreen trees on the anniversary of her passing into peacefulness. We gathered wildflowers in the area and decorated a tree.

The tree, we filled with soft colored wildflowers.  Afterward we had a picnic also in Karen's honor.  I favorite activity that we shared together with her.

To learn more about Karen and her life read Celebration of Life published last September 2020 on Breeze on my Skin.  Karen Smaby and her husband, Dan Kupietz owned and managed Devils Track Cabins.  The new owner has some wonderful things to share about Karen.

If you didn't have the opportunity to meet Karen, her energy lives on in her friends on the North Shore, at the North House Folk School, the fiber guild, the Elementary and High Schools where she taught book binding and penny rug making to students.  Her energy and vibrancy lives on.  We are so grateful.

Kinstone in Summer

The purple coneflowers are in full bloom at Kinstone.  This butterfly is having some nectar.

Color and Words to Inspire

Painting with acrylic paints started for me this past winter.  I'm having fun with swirls and colors and adding poems. "The heart that lives is always young." Greek Proverb

This Rumi poem resonates with me as huge and amazing:

"You are not a drop of water in the ocean, you are the entire ocean in a drop."

"Help me always speak the truth quietly,

To listen with an open mind when others speak

And to remember the peace that may be found in silence."

                                                        Cherokee Prayer

"Be brave enough to live at the center of your world."

                                                        Depok Chopra

"It's all about loving,

Day to Day

there is so much to enjoy and be grateful for."

                                            Melanie Circle

The art above is painted on 8" x 10" canvases.

I've been writing some poems and short pieces; I hope that they will be part of my art one day soon.  Stay tuned!

Enjoy.

Saturdays in Winona

Farmer's Market located at Levee Park is a vibrant way to start off your Saturday morning with coffee or chai, bakery, vegies, flowers, meats, and more.  Meet up with friends and family for lots of smiles.

This woman is sporting a very fun bag.  Earlier this spring, masks were worn at Farmer's Market.  Now that the CDC has lifted some of the restrictions for mask wearing for those who have been fully vaccinated, masks are not required.

Tove, a friendly person who answers your questions.  She is one of the Farmer's Market coordinators.

A bit of picnic and frocking before Jamie heads to work.

A wonderful cafe restaurant in downtown Winona

Delicious coffee, gelato, pastries, sandwiches and pasta.  Join us for the fun at Cafe Sapori de Sicilia
