Minnesota Quilt Show 2019 Rochester

The Minnesota Quilt Show was last week in Rochester, Minnesota.  I'm an art quilter that is working to get back into her art. I went to the show last week to be inspired and take in the beauty of these amazing artists.

Piece by Piece by Peg Lindberg
The Minnesota Contemporary Quilters' 2019 Challenge was Songspiration.  A few of my favorites are shown here with the artist's name and inspiration..

Moon Rise over Lake Superior by Mimie Pollard

Debbie Boyles inspired by a photo she took on the Lennon Wall in Prague and the song "Imagine," by John Lennon.

Kelly Swenson inpiration the song, "Here Comes the Sun."

Fun quilts that take inspiration from music.  Hmmmm, it gives me some ideas. More art coming soon.

Silly Times in the Summertime

Kinsley peeking under the chair arm with Norris

My silly little friend, Kinsley and her Mom, Abby came over to play with some art and henna hair, yesterday.  Oh and to meet our cats, Norris and Tara. Norris is the more nervous of our kitties.  He was so calm and tolerant of this excited little girl.

Abby took these pictures of us.  Here we had applied the henna to our hair; we put on a plastic bag and a towel over the big mess. We had it wait a bit for the color to apply.  We came over to show Norris.

We had to get Abby in the picture fun with a selfie.

See the strand of henna--orange color in Kinsley's hair?

Norris is under there some where.

Did you notice there are no pictures of Tara?  Yup, she ran away. Under the couch and then down the stairs into the lower level.  Maybe another time. If you haven't met Tara yet, check out Tara and Norris here.

More art making and fun with Kinsley and Abby in the future.

Art Show and Spring Concert at RCS

May is always a busy time and change is in the air.  To add to that excitement, we have an Art Show, Spring Concert and Book Fair all at the beginning of May at Ridgeway Community School.

Mixed art by 2nd & 3rd Grade Artists

Zinnias inspired by artist Clementine Hunter by 4th & 5th grade artists

Cardinals, turtles, Pete the cats by 1st Grade Artists

     Mixed art by Kindergarten artists

The song, "Imagine," by John Lennon inspired this art by 2nd and 3rd grade artists.

One song in the Spring Concert had sign language done by three fifth grade students, Kayleigh, Naser and Payton with  them wearing white gloves and a black light illuminated their gestures. Kinders backs in the foreground quite enthralled.

The entrance into the Art and Music room that Jill Rae Ahrens and I share.

Sleeping Kitty & Miniature Pillow

The 4th & 5th grade students stitched a sleeping cat with a little pillow.  The cats are made of felt. The pillow is woven cloth.

They gave their cat a name and wrote it on a name plate with their name.

Focused stitchers, Naser, Payton, and Cooper, 5th graders.

A basket and a box of sleeping cat supplies.

The beginning with some faces and tails stitched on and eyes colored in with fabric markers.

Hunter, Kole and Elijah stuffing their cats.

Kole and Lanie stitching.

Kayla, 4th grader stitching.  Lots of good focus on this creating.  It was lots of fun!

Stitching Penguins with 2nd and 3rd Grade Students

We stitched some cute little penguins with the 2nd and 3rd grade students.  They were reading books about penguins and it was fun to learn how to create a form through stitching.  These were created about of felt with a running stitch.

 Piney by Aidan

Happy Feet by Khloe

Each student gave thier penguin and name and put a name plate near their penguin.

We displayed these cuties in our library for everyone to have a look at a little cuteness.

Here's a tutorial to create your own penguin softie.
Have fun!

Eygpt's Sunken Cities

Amaliya and I in front of two of the huge statues that were found under the sea.  It is believed about about 10 % of the treasure has been found.

I had the opportunity to view these amazing ancient pieces in December for my birthday treat, and then come back again in March with Amaliya and Bob.  The mystery and all the stories that surround all of these pieces of beauty is phenomenal.
