Artsonia

There's a new page on Breeze on my Skin called Artsonia.  It is listed on the right column under the title Pages under the Gallery tab.

Artsonia is an art museum of children’s artwork.  Ridgeway Community School children’s artwork can be viewed at Artsonia.  Through Artsonia, friends and family can purchase items with the children’s artwork that benefit the Art Department at our school.  Thanks for enjoying the children’s artwork.


I publish the artwork to this site for public viewing.  Many of the artworks of the children are amazing.

Fly Away with a Book

The Southeastern Minnesota Libraries invite artists to submit one piece of artwork that depicts books or libraries for a traveling art show in libraries called Experience Art in Southeastern Libraries, EASEL.   I was honored to be part of that show with a piece called Library Paradise as it traveled for 2012-2013.  I've had a love affair with libraries and books since I was a girl.  Just going in to find a new book or research a project is a wonderful thing to me.

The submission date for the 12" x 12" artwork was last week and I submitted "Fly Away with a Book."  It is a fiber art quilt with layers of fabric and hand writing and stitching about books.
Here's a peek into the process of creating the piece through photographs.

I began with some drawings and fabric selection.  Then I started to lay the fabric pieces on the 12" x 12" format.

Boat Houses on the Mississippi

 

Notice the sky in these pictures.  Can you figure out the time of year?  Just curious if you're noticing the changes in the sky as the seasons change.  These pictures are of the Mississippi River in mid-August about two months ago.  The sky still had the summer blue--not the crisp blue of autumn yet.   The sky changes as the season's change.  The clearness of the air with less humidity and more cool air creates amazing clear cerulean skies in the autumn.

Bob, my husband, and I put the kayaks in at Prairie Island Beach to travel to the back side of the island to see the Boat Houses and beyond.  It was a still day and we were getting more confident about traveling for a short while on the main channel of the Mississippi.

 

 

Each Boat House is unique and beautiful.  Some very utilitarian for fishing and others very decorative for year round living.

 

 

 

 

The reflections in the water are fascinating.  Golds and reds shimmer on the water.

 

Life's perspective changes when one is on the water.   Looking through eyes with fascination.

Making art--it is important to kids.  It is important to life.
